2015, a year for action

January 15th 2015 marks the launch of Action 2015. A campaign focused on inspiring the international community to come together and speak as one to help create a future free from poverty, inequality and dangerous climate change. As Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary-General of the UN says, “The World has an historic opportunity to chart a new era of sustainability, building on the successes of the Millennium Development Goals”.

Why is this year important for change?

There are some critical milestones this year; country elections, the 70th United Nations General Assembly, International agreements of Sustainable Development Goals to last until 2030, the Paris UN Climate Conference where legally binding agreements will be made by all nations of the world. It’s a big year, full of impact, but also positivity. We’ve already seen in January how Sri Lanka have turned the tide on elections. Their recent election has been deemed the most peaceful in recent history and is a testament to the people of Sri Lanka and its leaders.

People have the power to create extraordinary change when they come together. Action 2015

Action 2015 objectives and Cord

Throughout 2015 Cord will be supporting the principled objectives of the action/2015 campaign as outlined in Action 2015’s open letter to World Leaders. We will argue though, that the Sustainable Development Goals agreed this year will not work unless communities are living in peace and have the tools, resources and knowledge to combat poverty, climate change, inequality and violence.
