A Prayer

If you have been inspired by the work that you have learned about here on Cord’s website, and you’d like to get involved, either with Cord or with similar work elsewhere with a different agency, you may like to use this prayer, written by Brian Wakley, our Director of International Programmes…

Lord Jesus, thank you that you made yourself one of us and came to serve. You saw, experienced and walked with people who were being oppressed, marginalised and living through injustice and brought your news of hope of a different way to see people reconciled to people and people reconciled with God.

You challenged me to follow you, to take up your work to free the oppressed, to seek justice and be a peacemaker and I commit myself again today to be moulded and discipled by my God.

Lord continue to give me the courage to fight the fight, the hope to open my eyes and see the injustices and pain and not submit to cynicism, to see you in the people I meet, to see you living amongst the poor and downtrodden and to receive your wisdom, creativity and compassion to challenge the injustices lovingly and go the extra mile, to love my enemies and the enemies of the oppressed and to open my life to your inspection, to cast off all the wealth, comfort, fear and ignorance that prevents me from being your hands and feet and good news to the poor and oppressed.

Here I am, use me...
Amen
