Students

If you are a university student or a student in higher education who would like to become involved in Cord then this section is for you!

Our peace building work with the world’s most marginalised people DOES make a difference. With your help, we can achieve even more.

Why not start a Cord Group!

Setting up a student group isn't difficult, and it can be lots of fun.  Here are a few key pointers:

  • Make sure you have spoken to the Students Union, you can contact them all year round; they will have guidelines for new groups and societies. Your SU exists to support and represent its members. Find the officer responsible for sports clubs and societies, they will be able to help you get started and offer support.
  • Get other people on board. You only need a few of people to start a student group.  You may already have a group of friends who want to set up the group with you. If not, arrange an informal first meeting to get others involved. Make sure it's at a good time for people and in a place everyone can get to.
  • Advertise the meeting well through leaflets/posters and announcements in lectures. Talk to your student media editors on campus, will they put a flyer in the student newspaper or run a feature on Cord to help get the word out?
  • Invite one of our team to give a talk at the meeting. This may help to inspire others to get involved and will give you a chance to learn more
  • Talk to other societies on campus, they will have top tips about organising and advertising meetings and events.
  • Get your RAG committee to lend a hand.
  • Finally, join your group officially to Cord using the Register my Group form. This is so we can send you mailings, DVD’s and other resources.
