In Pursuit of Peace - a photographic exhibition to mark Peace Day

Wednesday, 14 September 2011 10:27

Cord invites you to view a stunning exhibition of images from its programme in Burundi, an African country that is recreating itself after years of civil war.

The exhibition will be held from September 19- Oct 6 in the Chapel of Christ the Servant at Coventry Cathedral, marking International Day of Peace on 21 September. Professional photographer, David Morphew, (www.davidmorphew.com) who is a based in Leamington Spa, took the images. He describes himself as a people photographer not a travel photographer and the work on display reflects the way he works; a mixture of natural moments and posed portraits telling a story.

“Having the opportunity to visit this remote part of Burundi made me realise how little I really understood about the way of life,” says David

“It’s only when you see first hand how thirty dollars for a goat can turn a family’s situation around that the penny finally drops. Charities like Cord really are making a difference.”

Chief Executive of Cord, Brian Wakley, said “We are thrilled with the images that are in the exhibition and many more that David has taken for us. They make it so much easier for us to communicate what we do to our supporters and to others. The exhibition, which has been kindly sponsored by many of our corporate friends, really does showcase our peacebuilding work.”
