Bishop Christopher is lending his support to Pedal for Peace Our very own Chief Executive Brian Wakley will be cycling over 800 miles from 23 – 30 June to each capital city in Great Britain & Ireland to raise funds for the Cord’s work. The week long ride falls inside Bike Week which runs until 24 June.
The message from Cord is “It’s time for peace!” The Bishop said: “Cycling is a great image for peace building. It takes effort, determination and a clear focus on the road that that will take us to our destination. Brian’s ambitious ride is a call to all of us who live here not only to lend support with our money but to commit our own efforts to the cause of peace in every land.” 1.5 billion people in the world live in countries affected by conflict. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres warned in recent weeks that displacement from conflict is being compounded by a combination of causes including climate change, urbanization, food insecurity, water scarcity and resource competition. “It’s great having the Bishop’s support. Coventry and the Cathedral are beacons for peace and reconciliation. Cord won the 2010 Coventry International peace prize so it’s great to start this ride at the Cathedral and take inspiration for the challenge ahead,” says Brian. Brian will even be wearing a tiara to draw attention to his message that peace isn’t just the dream of beauty queens – it’s the right of every man woman and child.
