Our Partner: ADDF

ADDF - The Association for the Defence of the Rights of Women – is a national charity promoting women’s rights throughout Burundi.

ADDF works with 154 local groups in ten provinces, helping women to improve their literacy, and to support themselves and be independent through a variety of income generating schemes – such as selling fish from Lake Tanganyika, and producing and selling palm oil.

A countrywide network of hill and commune councils are all involved in their work, and women living in the country can have their say by contributing to a monthly magazine.

Girls who have had no education and young mothers are helped to learn a trade, and networks are being set up to sell their goods.

ADDF also trains women to understand national and international law, and to become potential political candidates, as well as working to end discrimination.

Cord is in partnership with this exciting organisation to give the women of Burundi a stronger voice.
