Kimbimba Hill - Giharo Commune

I am married with a son and a daughter. My life turned out to be a difficult one. At the age of 12, I had to leave everything; the village where I grew up, my friends, my school. We were in between the two sides in the war and somehow victims of both. Many times, I and my parents escaped death and we had no choice but to flee to Tanzania in 1993.

When we reached Tanzania, life was different. We lived in a camp with barely basic needs. There was no work, we were very idle. A year later, my parents decided to come back and I came back with them. I went back to school but, as we suspected, the war was not over and we had to go to live in a camp set up by the government. There I got pregnant by a man I met and this was the end of my dream of an education.

Ten years after we left, we came back here and 2 years later I got married and now have two children. My husband has no formal job apart from working on our small land and our house is covered with grass.

I am a member of the TWITEZIMBERE Association and Cord gave us a chance to work in the seed centre, the only one in Giharo. We planted rice and Soya, and we managed to get 103 g of Soya and a mere 27 kg of rice. We hope that the next season will be better, and that we can get some profit after giving back part of the harvest to the seed centre.

Changes may not be tangible at the moment but thanks to Cord, we do have hope that things will improve for us.
