Banteay Srei

Cord is also working with the women’s organisation Banteay Srei in developing its staff, management and programmes so it can better help those who need it most.

Again it’s the women who live and work in the countryside villages who are the focus: some want to go back to school, others to start their own business to feed their family; to be able to have a voice in local democracy and to better understand their rights.

Banteay Srei believes that by harnessing this ‘girl power’ the poorest of women can work together to rebuild their lives. It’s a sentiment Cord is keen to endorse.

SCC

SCC staff taking orphans and vulnerable children on a visit to Wat Banan as part of SCC's 'Happy Happy' social and recreational programme.SCC - Salvation Centre Cambodia - works with Buddhist monks to care for and improve the lives of people infected or affected by HIV and AIDS. Among Khmers, Buddhist monks are trusted, respected and influential figures, who work tirelessly educating about prevention, as well as caring for the ill and supporting their families, especially vulnerable and orphaned children.

Their compassion, commitment and dedication to the community is playing a crucial role in three main centres across Cambodia, and Cord is helping them to develop a strategy for 2008 and beyond.
