Thank you so much for partnering with us in prayer for peace. I continue to be encouraged by the number of you who tell me how much you appreciate this publication, both as a guide for your prayers and also as an overview of our work. We certainly make every effort to ensure that we’re sharing the most up to date information on our projects. My hope is that you feel really connected with our activities and have a growing understanding of how your prayers and financial support are changing lives and communities.

We often describe our work as peace-building. When we talk about peace, we are drawing on all the richness and depth of the Hebrew concept of Shalom that we find expressed throughout the Old Testament. It is this concept that Jesus and His followers would have known so well. Shalom does involve the ending of hostilities and war, but it means so much more. It has to do with reconciliation, socially just relationships, and emotional wellbeing. Tim Keller puts it like this:

“Shalom experienced is multidimensional, complete well-being — physical, psychological, social, and spiritual; it flows from all of one’s relationships being put right — with God, with (in) oneself, and with others.”

In John 10:10 Jesus says, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Cord's mission is a world where people can live in the fullness of peace; having the freedom to flourish and live free from fear. I truly value your commitment to this mission.

Finally, I want you to know that you are always welcome to get in touch. If you have a question about any area of our work, want to share anything you feel God is saying as you pray, or if you just want to say Hi, please do email me – [email protected] or phone us – 024 7708 7777. When you ring, if we’re not available to chat, please leave an answerphone message and I’ll call you back as soon as possible.

With huge gratitude,

Nick Thorley
