Our Peace Day 2015 Event

Yesterday was the International Day of Peace, which is observed and celebrated around the entire globe. Now that Cord's main UK office has move to Coventry we had the opportunity to pair up with some other organisations from this City of Peace and Reconcilliation to host our own event with speakers and discussion.

The event started with a warm welcome from Cord's Casey Davison O'Brien followed by a selection of guest speakers including Cord's CEO, Mark Simmons.

"Peace is much more than the end of conflict between two groups"

"Peace has got to come when people recognise the dignity of their neighbour"

"Peace is possible when we see people as individuals. We love and forgive them"

"Partnership undermines revenge and builds forgiveness"
Mark Simmons, Cord CEO

We also had our Burundi Country Director, Fulgence, do a presentation over Skype and other guest speakers included Emmanuel Gore from Coventry University who told his story about having to leave South Sudan, Sabir Zazai who is now the Centre Director at Coventry's Refugee and Migrant Centre and is a refugee himself, plus The Lord Mayor of Coventry who spoke with great passion about Coventry's dedication to Peace, to name a few.

It was a wonderful time to hear other's thoughts, share stories and meet new friends. We're looking forward to next year's already!
